Power Up Movement Programme (PUMP) – Physical Activity Social Prescribing
Move more, feel better—matched to your health and your life. PUMP connects you with a Physical Activity Social Prescriber who will help you find safe, welcoming activities near you—including free or low-cost sessions for people with long-term conditions.

What PUMP is
Funded through the BrisDoc Community Fund, PUMP gives you time with a dedicated prescriber to explore what you enjoy, what’s safe for you and what fits your routine. We then link you to suitable local groups and sessions.
Who it’s for
- People living with long-term conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart or lung disease, joint or back pain).
- Anyone whose health, mood or sleep would benefit from moving more.
- People who prefer smaller, friendly groups or culturally familiar activities.
What we offer
- 1:1 conversation to set achievable goals.
- Matched activities—from gentle classes to walking groups and community sport (for example, linking an Afghan patient who enjoyed cricket to free weekly sessions with peers).
- Free sessions available for people with pre-existing health conditions.
- Simple resources including our BNSSG Wellbeing Toolkit and a directory of free/low-cost local groups.
“It was so good to do something practical for my patient beyond tablets—a regular cricket session changed his days and lifted his mood.” — CKMP GP (PUMP referral)
How it works
- Tell us you’re interested—speak to your GP, nurse or our Care Coordinator.
- Meet our PUMP prescriber—discuss your health, preferences and any worries.
- Try a starter session—we connect you to a local group and check it feels right.
- Follow-up—we review progress and adjust your plan together.
Safety, confidence and culture
We focus on what feels safe for you and pace things carefully. If English isn’t your first language, we can arrange interpreting so choices are clear. We seek welcoming, familiar groups so you’re more likely to keep going.
